COVID-19 Update - Cardhoarder

As a society, we are collectively facing what will be one of the hardest times many of us have known in our lifetimes; it is scary and unpredictable, but also an opportunity to take stock in what we have considered our norms and for those of us in a position to do so, do what we can to help others.

Cardhoarder Internally

We at Cardhoarder are in the unique and lucky position to all work remotely anyway.  We will continue to operate as normally as possible; our team will have unlimited paid time off as needed to handle health, familial health or other COVID-19-related issues, and the rest of the team will do their best to ensure our coverage remains 24/7.  In the event we need to adjust operations or scale back, we will announce that on social media and via an alert on our site. Many of our processes are automated and can be handled without human intervention, and so even in the event of us reducing human coverage, many of our services should remain uninterrupted.

Our hope is that our infrastructure in place is able to handle the load from any additional demand from more people staying at home and social distancing.  There might be external factors (like internet speed/bandwidth) at peak times that could affect not only our services, but your ability to use them or MTGO.  We will do our best to work around any such limitations and communicate our efforts to our customers as best as we can.

Cardhoarder and Our Customers

Loan Customers

We recognize that MTGO and our loan program in particular is an excellent opportunity to pass the time and sling some digital cardboard in the face of limited opportunities to sling real cardboard.  We further recognize that the financial strain from COVID-19 and its associated responses might affect our customers’ ability to pay their loan accounts.

If you are in a difficult financial position at any point during this crisis, please reach out to our support (chat on site, email, or on MTGO itself) to let us know.  We will place your account in “free mode”, which will suspend all amounts you pay for our service, but allow you to continue using it for free - no questions asked.

Please note we will limit the maximum loan value for those switching to free mode during this time to 300 Event Tickets to allow us to offer this to anyone who needs it.  We will keep you at whatever MLV you are at when making the request (or 300, if it is currently higher than that), but please don’t change to a high MLV and then make the request - please just use what you normally do.  We don’t know the duration of this crisis, but we will allow “free mode” until April 15, 2020, and will revisit at that time to assess our financial strength and the global situation. On or about April 15, 2020 (or later, if it is extended), you would be able to pause your account or resume your account in paid status again.  If you are in free mode, please be cognizant of how long you hold cards and return anything you are not using which will free that inventory up for another user to borrow. We're all in this together!

Please note that this offer currently extends only to active accounts as of the time of this announcement, and not to any accounts that are paused in order for us to continue to manage the program effectively for those actively using it.

Prospective Loan Program Customers

For nearly its entire inception, the demand for the program has exceeded our ability to offer the service effectively for customers.  This continues to be the case, and as more people are looking to MTGO as something to do while at home, that demand continues to rise.  We will continue to do our best to put people into the program where possible, but our primary concern is being able to actually offer the service you are paying for.  As such, our waitlist unfortunately remains in effect for new requests joining it, as well as extensively inactive accounts looking to resume service.

Loan Program - How Can I Help?

If you are in the loan program, please consider returning cards you aren’t using so that frees the inventory up for other customers.  Our ability to add new players into the program depends on the utilization of the cards we have. Further, if you don’t anticipate you will be using your account, consider pausing your account which may allow us to add others waiting more quickly.

No Loans - What About Me?

We see you, we love you too.  If you’re making orders and buying cards to play, not only are you still enjoying the game we love, but you’re helping enable us to offer what we can do for others in need - thank you.

MTGO?  I Want In!

If you’ve been thinking about joining MTGO, there is no better time than now.  The interface is dated and in some cases non-intuitive, but it does what it needs to - which is let you play Magic the Gathering - very well.  Make sure you get your free bot credit if you decide to join, and our beginner’s guide if you want a little guidance (also a little outdated, too, but it gets the job done!).  If you’re on a budget, check out Penny Dreadful or Pauper.
